the sky goes the color of a bruise
before it goes the color of nothing at all

somewhere a screen door slams itself shut
like it already knows

dogs go quiet first
then the wind picks up their silence and carries it

Wrote this watching a storm roll in over the coast a few weeks back. There's something about that specific window right before it hits, the light going strange and everything animal going still, that I wanted to try and capture without overexplaining it

The line about the wind picking up the dogs' silence and carrying it is such a strange and perfect way to describe that pre storm quiet

Sky going the color of a bruise before nothing at all is such an evocative progression, really sets the tone immediately

This captures that specific animal stillness before weather hits better than most prose descriptions I've read of the same moment
I read every reply. Even the bad ones.

Slow Hollow

The screen door detail grounds the whole thing in something concrete right before it goes more abstract, nice balance

Cass81

Would love to read more weather focused pieces from you, this observational style really works well for that subject
I read every reply. Even the bad ones.

Something about not overexplaining the feeling and just showing the details is exactly what makes this work
Still figuring it all out
