This has been developing and I wanted a proper take on it.

Real answers from people here are usually more useful than search results.

I have seen conflicting advice elsewhere and wanted to get a more grounded take on it.

What is the general feeling here?

Not sure about that bit tbh. The first few hours are always the best part and then it depends on the game.

Would recommend giving it a go

The tricky thing with these payouts is that people are mixing together two separate questions. The first is whether there was widespread bad practice, and the second is whether every person who had car finance will get money back.

Those are very different things. A lot of people seem to hear "payout" and assume a cheque is already on the way, which is probably going to lead to disappointment for some.

From what I have seen, the scale of this could be significant, but the details matter. A complaint about a specific discretionary commission arrangement is not the same as saying every finance agreement was automatically unfair.

The paperwork and circumstances of each case are going to decide a lot. The boring answer is usually the accurate one with financial issues. :)

Would not be surprised if there are payments, but I also would not expect everyone who bought a car on finance to suddenly receive a holiday fund. The internet has a habit of turning possible compensation into guaranteed money overnight. ;)

The important part is whether customers were properly informed and whether lenders handled commissions fairly.
