What was your first ever mobile phone, and did it survive being dropped constantly

[Gold Wolf]

Old forum classic, before smartphones took over everything, what was the actual first mobile phone you personally owned. Brick phone, flip phone, first Nokia with the unbreakable reputation, doesn't matter

Bonus points if you remember your ringtone situation, extra bonus points if you ever actually used it to play Snake during a boring class or meeting

[RealChristopher10]

A Nokia 3310 that survived being dropped down actual concrete stairs more than once with zero damage, genuinely built like a tank compared to anything now

[Hollow]

My first phone had a physical antenna you had to pull out, felt like operating actual military equipment as a teenager

[Gaz_82]

Remember saving up custom ringtones through some sketchy website that probably gave my family's computer three viruses in the process

[Cheeky Shaun]

Played so much Snake on a Nokia during boring classes, easily hundreds of hours of my childhood lost to that one single game

[Merchant89]

First phone was a hand me down flip phone that made the most satisfying snap sound closing it after every single call

[BinaryMonk95]

This thread is making me appreciate just how indestructible those old phones actually were, my current phone shatters if I look at it wrong

[Rhys]

First phone was a Nokia 3310 and it might still be alive somewhere.

Dropped it on concrete, tiles, even down the stairs once.

Picked it up, still working like nothing happened

[IronWarden]

A flip phone that made you feel cool just for answering a call.

Snap it shut dramatically at the end like a movie character.

Durability was decent, but nowhere near Nokia levels

[Phil95]

Snake was basically a full-time commitment.

High scores mattered more than actual messages.

Phone was just a gaming device with calling as a side feature

[Hare]

That monochrome screen somehow felt enough.

No apps, no distractions, just basic functions.

And it still kept you entertained for hours.

[Craig71]

Texting with T9 was a skill.

You either mastered it or suffered.

Predictive text had a personality of its own

[FridayFeeling]

Motorola Razr was the dream phone for a while.

Thin, stylish, felt futuristic.

Also slightly terrifying to drop.

[EventHorizonOctopus]

Battery life was unreal back then.

Charge it once and forget about it for days.

Modern phones could never

[AmberCrossing]

Custom ringtones were a whole thing.

Spending way too long picking the perfect one.

Or composing your own if you were dedicated

[ArmandoCardoso]

That antenna nub on older phones felt important.

No idea what it actually did, but it made the phone look serious.

[Hare]

Dropping those early phones wasn't even a concern.

More worried about the floor than the device

[Binary Hermit]

First color screen felt like a huge upgrade.

Suddenly everything looked advanced.

Even simple games felt new again.

[CrimsonFury31]

Polyphonic ringtones were peak technology.

Hearing actual music instead of beeps felt impressive

[Peter]

Sliding phones had their own charm.

Push it up, reveal the keypad.

Satisfying every single time.

[Oscar73]

Phone cases weren't even a thing for most people.

Didn't need them.

The phone itself was basically the case.

[CosmicRay91]

Contacts list was memorized by heart.

No syncing, no backups.

You just remembered numbers.

[alwaysPatrick19]

Infrared sharing felt like magic.

Line up two phones and transfer a file.

Slow, but exciting.

[Grace24]

Camera phones changed everything.

Grainy photos, but suddenly you could capture moments.

Big shift at the time

[Jason99]

Games beyond Snake started appearing.

Simple but addictive.

Still nowhere near what we have now.

[MiniElliot]

Those phones felt durable and simple.

Less features, more reliability.

Different priorities back then

[Sentinel66]

Typing messages took effort.

Made you think about what you wanted to say.

No rapid-fire texting.

[Blake_73]

That startup animation when turning on the phone.

Small detail, but memorable.

Every brand had its own vibe.

[Ronaldo22]

Looking back, they survived everything.

Drops, scratches, rough handling.

Built like tiny bricks
