Vivo has launched its latest foldable, the X Fold 6, outside China, and on paper it is a very strong rival to Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold range. It runs on MediaTek's Dimensity 9500 Super Edition chip with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. Both screens are LTPO AMOLED panels with a 1 to 120Hz refresh rate, 5,000 nits peak brightness and Dolby Vision support. The inner display is 8.02 inches and the cover screen 6.51 inches

The camera setup is the headline. There is a 200 megapixel main camera with a Samsung HPB sensor, an f/1.68 aperture and ZEISS T* coating, plus a 50 megapixel ultrawide and a 50 megapixel periscope telephoto with 3x optical zoom. Each screen has its own 20 megapixel selfie camera. Vivo's ZEISS partnership has given its phones a strong reputation for photography in recent years. Telephoto quality has been a weak spot on many foldables

Battery life looks impressive for a foldable, with a 6,900mAh cell, slightly smaller than the 7,000mAh Chinese version. It supports 80W wired charging, 40W wireless charging and reverse wireless charging, and Vivo still includes a charger in the box. The black model weighs 228 grams and the blue 235 grams, and it is about 9.4 to 9.9mm thick when folded. Few rivals can match that on paper

Global pricing had not been announced at launch, which makes it hard to judge value against Samsung. Vivo also has a limited presence in the UK, so availability here may be patchy. That has often been the problem with Chinese foldables, as the hardware is excellent but buying one can be tricky

Foldables are improving fast, with bigger batteries and better cameras every year. Would you consider a Vivo foldable over a Samsung? And has anyone here moved to a folding phone yet?
