New filings in a Chinese regulatory database suggest the iPhone 18 Pro Max will ship with a 5,567mAh battery in its US eSIM only configuration, nearly a 10 percent jump over the iPhone 17 Pro Max's 5,088mAh cell. The regular iPhone 18 Pro, by contrast, appears to be getting a much smaller bump, up to just 4,288mAh from 4,252mAh, less than a 1 percent increase

Apple has kept the pattern of giving US models slightly larger batteries than international versions with physical SIM trays, a difference that has held since the iPhone 14. If these numbers hold up, the Pro Max would end up with a battery almost 30 percent larger than the standard Pro, a wider gap between the two models than in previous years

This kind of regulatory filing leak has been a genuinely reliable early indicator in the past, correctly calling the iPhone 17 Pro's battery capacity ahead of its official announcement last year. Apple itself has said nothing officially, and the company traditionally keeps exact battery specs quiet until launch or the first teardown

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 lineup in September alongside its first foldable iPhone, with rumors suggesting the standard non Pro models might get pushed to a separate spring 2027 release window, a genuine departure from Apple's usual single launch event for the whole lineup

Splitting the lineup into two separate release windows would be a genuinely big change to how Apple has done iPhone launches for years now
