Not a hate thread, a bafflement thread. Everyone has one thing the whole world seems to adore that simply does not land for them, the food, the film, the pastime, the destination, the app, and the honest confusion is far more interesting than the contrarian performance

The rules keep it civil, you must genuinely have TRIED the thing, no judging from the shoreline, and you must phrase it as confusion rather than superiority, I do not get it lands very differently from people who like it are wrong

The best part of past threads like this is the second act, when fans of the thing try to explain the appeal to the confused party in good faith, and occasionally, beautifully, a conversion happens in real time. That is the secret goal of the whole exercise

So, what is yours, how many honest attempts have you given it, and are you open to being talked around or is the door closed? Fans, your job is evangelism without condescension, the hardest sport on this forum

MurkyVoyager

Camping. Tried it five times with four different groups, and I have paid good money to be cold, damp and further from a toilet. Explain the appeal like I am an alien, door is open
Posted from a machine that definitely needs a clean install

Camping fan reporting for evangelism duty, the appeal is not comfort, it is the recalibration, three days of fire, weather and no schedule resets a nervous system in a way no hotel ever has. You are buying the discomfort ON PURPOSE
git commit -m "fixed everything"

QuantumLeap11

The recalibration argument is the first camping defence that has ever made sense to me, annoyed to report the door just opened slightly wider

QubitZero68

Mine is stand up comedy specials, I laugh constantly with friends and sit stone faced through the most acclaimed hours ever recorded. Something about laughter being scheduled kills it dead for me

MickFoley

Olives. Eleven honest attempts across three decades, everyone promises the palate matures, mine has apparently filed for exemption
Cashback on everything or it didn't happen

Gary98

Olives are attempt fifteen territory, they flipped for me at thirty like a switch. Hold the door open, your future self may be an olive person and simply has not arrived yet
Currently losing at something

Big one incoming, live sport in stadiums. Adore it on television, went to several matches, spent the whole time watching a tiny far away version of the thing the screen shows better. Genuinely asking what I am missing

Ava_75

What you are missing is that you are not there to SEE the game, you are there to be inside the noise when something happens. The television shows you the match, the stadium lets you join it

Andy99

Theme parks for me, queued ninety minutes for ninety seconds so many times before admitting the maths never worked in my favour. The people I love adore them so I keep attending my own bafflement annually

AlwaysReadyHenry32

The phrase attending my own bafflement annually describes half of family life honestly
