Holiday must-have

I took a trip to Morocco but far too hot for me. I found the greatest pool inflatable ever.  Total gamechanger.

Its a pool inflatable with a canopy. The canopy can pull back or come off if you want the sun. I would rather be on one of these all day than on a hot sweaty sun lounger

That canopy inflatable sounds like a genius idea for places where the sun is doing its best to cook you alive.

A lot of people focus on packing gadgets and forget the simple comfort things that make a holiday better. A bit of shade by the pool can be the difference between relaxing and hiding indoors all afternoon.

Mine is a decent reusable water bottle. Sounds boring, but after paying holiday prices for tiny bottles of water, it quickly pays for itself.

Also saves having to hunt for shops every time you go out exploring. Small thing, but it makes travelling much easier.

A good pair of sunglasses is my must-have. Not the cheap ones that look nice for five minutes and then break in your bag.

A proper pair with good protection makes walking around sunny places much more enjoyable. Your eyes will thank you later.

A portable charger has saved me more times than I can count. Nothing worse than being in a new city, trying to find your hotel, and watching your phone battery drop to 2 percent.

The only downside is remembering to charge the charger itself. Learned that lesson the hard way.

Comfortable shoes deserve more attention. People pack outfits for every possible occasion and then end up walking around with painful feet.

A reliable pair of trainers is probably the most useful holiday item after a passport.

The inflatable with the canopy is actually a pretty clever idea. Traditional inflatables are fun until you realise you are basically lying in direct sunlight like a potato roasting in an oven.

Anything that combines relaxing and avoiding sunburn gets my vote.

The best holiday purchase I made was a little waterproof phone pouch. Thought it was unnecessary until a boat trip where everyone else was protecting their phones from splashes.

Sometimes the boring accessories are the ones that end up being the most useful.

Noise cancelling headphones have become essential. Airports, flights and noisy hotels can test anyone's patience.

Being able to switch off for an hour makes travelling feel much less stressful.

It takes up almost no space and somehow gets used on nearly every trip.
