I decided to produce this list because every year my girlfriend packs the same stuff and then realises halfway through our trip that she is missing something obvious that I had the foresight to bring. She is packing right now for Greece. So I did this post on what I think are the Must-Have Holiday Gadgets for Summer 2026.

Last time. Dead phone. Damaged/Lost luggage. Overheating in 40 degree heat.

The difference between a smooth trip and an annoying one usually comes down to a few small gadgets.

Here are the ones actually worth taking in 2026.

Portable Power Bank (non-negotiable)

Anker 737 Power Bank 24000mAh

If you bring one thing, make it this.

Phones, earbuds, tablets, everything drains faster when you are travelling. Maps, photos, constant usage.

A high-capacity power bank means:

* No panic when your phone hits 5%
* Can charge multiple devices
* Lasts all day without needing a plug

Modern ones now push serious power, enough for laptops as well

Bluetooth Tracker (stop losing stuff)

Apple AirTag

This is one of those things you don't think you need... until you do.

Attach it to:

* Suitcase
* Backpack
* Keys

If something goes missing, you can track it instantly using your phone. People use these all the time now for luggage tracking

Universal Travel Adapter

Universal Travel Adapter with USB

Different countries, different plugs.

Without this:

* You cannot charge anything
* You end up hunting for adapters at airports

With this:

* One device works everywhere
* Charge multiple devices at once

Simple but essential.

Portable Handheld Fan

Rechargeable Handheld Fan

Sounds basic, but in heat it is a lifesaver.

* Great for airports, queues, beaches
* Some double as power banks
* Small enough to carry anywhere

These have become really popular for summer travel because of rising temperatures ([buzzfeed.com][3])

Noise Cancelling Earbuds

Sony WF-1000XM5 Earbuds

Flights, trains, hotels.

Noise cancelling makes a massive difference.

* Blocks engine noise
* Helps you sleep
* Makes travel less stressful

Once you use them, you won't go back.

Kindle or E-Reader

Kindle Paperwhite

Instead of carrying books:

* Store hundreds on one device
* Read in sunlight
* Long battery life

Also waterproof, which helps around pools and beaches

Portable Bluetooth Speaker

JBL Clip 5 Portable Speaker

For:

* Beach days
* Hotel rooms
* Outdoor trips

Small speakers now have surprisingly good sound and are designed for travel use ([Travel + Leisure][4])

Pool Inflatable with Canopy (removable)

Floating in the pool used to mean lying in direct sun.

Now it is about staying cool while you are in the water.

Inflatables with built-in or removable canopies are becoming more popular because they solve a simple problem:

* Too much direct sun/heat stroke/Excessive sunburn
* Constantly having to move in and out of shade

With a canopy you can stay in the pool longer / Reduced sun exposure and far more comfortable.

Pool Inflatable with Canopy (Summer)

Pool Inflatable with Canopy (Green)

This is one of those small upgrades that makes a noticeable difference on holiday.

Once you use one, a basic lilo feels one dimensional.

Final Thoughts

Travel gadgets are not about showing off.

They are about removing small annoyances:

* Dead batteries
* Lost items
* Heat
* Noise

Get those right, and the whole trip is easier.

Most of these are small, cheap, and used constantly once you have them.

That is what makes them worth it

Follow me because I have a great idea for a subsequent post
I'm not always right, but I'm never wrong ;)

ArVeeDee

I love this. Im going away to Mexico soon. I'm going to get myself an inflatable with canopy

My inflatable pool hammock is the first thing in my case

And don't forget a little pump to blow inflatables up. Genius!
The truth is usually more complicated than the headline

Agree, and the implications are bigger than most people realise. There is usually a quieter more important story sitting just behind the obvious headline.

That is my read on it anyway

That is my view too if I am being straight. Home advantage is still massive and gets written off too easily.

Interested to see where this goes

I would be cautious about taking the early reports at face value on this one. That is my read on it anyway

QuietNomad

Not sure that is universally true. Still playing it tbh

Same here tbh. Good shout

That is exactly it. Always the way.

Nice one. ;)
Be excellent to each other

Cannot disagree with that. People forget that pressure affects players differently and the better sides handle it better.

The result will answer the question better than any of us can
Cashback on everything or it didn't happen

Good shout. Happens to me all the time.

Proper useful that

Ridge

Not fully convinced by that part of it. Task Manager tells you most of what you need to know if you know which columns to look at.

That is how I would approach it anyway

That is worth it, agreed. Worth doing even if the saving is small

Pixel Mark

Not worth cutting corners on that part. Turned out alright when I did it

Keep an eye on it, yes. Good to know about

Ended up in the same place, yeah. Post a photo when it is done

Still think the same, yeah. Interested to see where this goes

Cannot disagree with that. The best sides find ways to win ugly and that matters more than the style of play.

Cannot wait for the game to settle it

Honestly my must-have list is way more boring but realistic. A good universal travel adapter with built-in surge protection is still king.

Everything else depends on it. Your fancy gadgets are useless if you can't safely charge them in the first place.

I do agree though that smart luggage trackers are the only "smart" travel gadget that consistently delivers value without feeling like overkill

I think people are sleeping on cooling tech this year. Not just fans, but wearable cooling bands and phase-change fabric accessories.

I used a cooling neck wrap during a heatwave last summer and it felt almost unreal how much difference it made. Small device, huge impact.

Also, solar charging backpacks are finally getting good enough to be practical instead of gimmicky. If you're outdoors a lot, they're worth a look
It's not a bug, it's a feature

Andy99

This is actually a solid discussion for 2026 because holiday gadgets have changed a lot in the last few years. My top pick has to be a compact power bank with solar trickle charging. Sounds basic, but the newer ones are insanely efficient and perfect for beach trips or long hikes.

Second thing I swear by is a pocket-sized AI travel assistant device. Not just an app, but a dedicated gadget that works offline for translations, navigation hints, and even safety alerts. It's like having a travel buddy that never gets tired.

Also, noise-cancelling earbuds are no longer optional in my opinion. Airports and trains are chaos in summer travel season, and having that bubble of silence is priceless

Taker92

I'm going to push back a bit on the AI travel assistant hype. I've tried a couple of those devices and honestly, my phone still does 90 percent of the job better.

What I do think is underrated for summer 2026 is a wearable hydration tracker. Sounds silly, but when you're out in heatwaves or doing city travel, it actually reminds you to drink water before you feel bad.

And I'll die on this hill: a good portable fan is more important than half the tech people carry. Not glamorous, but when you're melting in a queue somewhere in Europe, you'll understand

Oscar_38

Everyone's talking about smart gadgets, but I think the real must-have for summer 2026 is ultra-light e-ink travel devices. Not tablets, but actual distraction-free readers and planners.

I took one on a trip last year and it completely changed how I journal and plan days. No notifications, no doom scrolling, just actual focus.

Also, tiny clip-on UV sensors are getting surprisingly useful. They sync to your phone and tell you when you're frying yourself without noticing. Not glamorous, but very practical

Kyle99

Can we talk about how over-engineered some of these "must-have" gadgets are becoming? Half of them feel like solutions looking for problems.

That said, I do love smart luggage trackers. Being able to see where your bag is in real time during summer travel chaos is a sanity saver.

Another underrated one is a foldable Bluetooth keyboard. If you're traveling and need to do any work at all, it turns any café into a temporary office. It's not exciting, but it's insanely useful

My favourite summer gadget for 2026 is actually something simple: a high-efficiency mini projector. Hear me out.

You can turn any hotel wall or Airbnb ceiling into a cinema. Watching films after a long travel day hits differently when it feels like a personal theatre.

Pair that with a small portable speaker and suddenly your boring accommodation becomes a full entertainment setup. It's not essential, but it makes trips feel way more memorable

NeonPhantom39

I love how every year we reinvent the idea of travel gadgets like we didn't already solve half of this stuff a decade ago.

Still, I'll admit 2026 has some genuinely useful upgrades. The new generation of pocket translation devices is actually impressive, especially offline accuracy.

But my personal MVP is still a simple multi-port GaN charger. One plug, multiple devices, no stress. Not flashy, but it just works
