What is the best monitor upgrade for gaming right now

A lot of people upgrade their PC but keep an older monitor, which can hold back the experience more than expected.

Right now the sweet spot seems to be 1440p with high refresh rate.

Example option:
LG UltraGear 27GP850 1440p 165Hz Monitor

For budget users, 1080p high refresh is still solid:
AOC 24G2 24" Frameless Gaming IPS Monitor

The jump from 60Hz to 144Hz is massive, often more noticeable than raw resolution.

The real question is whether it is better to push resolution or refresh rate depending on your build.

What would you prioritise right now, higher resolution or higher refresh rate?
