The old school signature thread, show off your forum sig

[CMPunk96]

Bringing back a classic, post whatever you've got set as your forum signature right now, quote, image, joke, random fact, doesn't matter. Rate the sig of the person above you if you feel so inclined

Extra credit for anyone still rocking an animated gif signature the way the old internet intended

[DataProphet]

Mine's just a random pun I heard once and never bothered updating, apparently it's been the same sig for two years now

[SharpLantern]

Still running a signature quote from a book that clearly meant something to teenage me but I've kept out of pure nostalgia

[Caitlin_69]

Rating the sig above mine a solid 8 out of 10, genuinely made me laugh out loud

[Poppy96]

Never actually set one up, this thread is making me feel like I'm missing out on a whole tradition

[Arty Leah]

An old animated gif sig from a game I don't even play anymore, keeping it purely for the nostalgia value at this point

[Dean95]

This thread brought back so many memories of forums I haven't thought about in years

[Leo29]

The signature era was peak forum personality. Half the fun was scrolling past a wall of tiny text, ASCII art, and some overconfident quote from a movie nobody asked for. A good sig was basically your handshake before you even posted. If it had a blinkie, a slogan, and a random fact about your favorite game, that was deluxe status

[Poppy5]

The best sigs were the ones that made you laugh after seeing them for the tenth time. A deadpan joke, a weird one-line quote, or a tiny inside joke from some thread three years ago. Overly elaborate image sigs could be a nightmare on slow connections, but if someone kept it tasteful, that was elite. Nothing worse than loading a thread and getting smacked with eight dancing skulls and a huge banner that says "deal with it"

Keeping an old animated gif sig for nostalgia is very on-brand for forums, though. There's something charming about a tiny looping image from a dead game still hanging around like a ghost in the machine. Retiring the game but not the sig is such a pure move. It's basically saying the vibe mattered more than the playlist, which is probably true for a lot of old forum habits

[Dean95]

Some people treated signatures like identity theft prevention and others treated them like mini billboards. "Currently listening to..." widgets, little animated buttons, clan tags, and the obligatory "Member since 2004" flex. The weirdest part is how much effort went into something most readers spent half a second looking at. Peak internet energy, really. We all decorated our profiles like digital dorm rooms

There's a weird difference between a sig that looks cool and a sig that feels like the person actually wrote it. Some folks went full internet poet, others just used a favorite character, and a few brave souls kept it bare-bones with one sentence and no image at all. That minimal style ages surprisingly well. Meanwhile the old glitter text and 200px-wide flames are a glorious relic of a more unhinged time
