Some games are so good that you wish you could experience them for the first time again. The twists, the discoveries, the first time you saw a breathtaking view or worked out a clever puzzle all lose some of their magic on a second playthrough. You know where everything is and what happens next. If you could wipe your memory of one game and start fresh, which would you choose?

Story driven games seem like obvious picks, especially ones with big twists. But exploration games, puzzle games and mysteries also depend heavily on surprise. Games like Outer Wilds, Return of the Obra Dinn and Portal are built around discovery, and once you know the answers, you cannot unknow them. Even huge open world games lose something when you know every secret

My choice would be Outer Wilds. I will not say anything about it, because the less you know, the better. It is a game about curiosity, and every discovery felt incredible. I have recommended it to everyone I know, with the instruction to go in completely blind

Please avoid spoilers in your replies, since some members may not have played your choice yet. Saying why a game was special without revealing the twist is part of the challenge. If you must mention a spoiler, warn people clearly first

I read every reply. Even the bad ones.

Sentinel66

Undertale. Say nothing to anyone, play it blind and talk to everything. Once you know how it works, the magic is different. Still lovely, but different

Batgirl60

Portal. The humour, the puzzles and the slowly dawning realisation of what is going on

It is short, perfect and impossible to replay with fresh eyes. The cake joke has been repeated so often that it has lost its charm, which is another reason to start again
