Microsoft Reportedly Struggling to Make Next Xbox 'Project Helix' Affordable Amid Hardware Crisis

[Skibidi]

Buried in this week's Xbox news is a more worrying thread for console fans, with reports that Microsoft is struggling to make its next machine, codenamed Project Helix, affordable because of a hardware component crisis. Rising memory prices in particular are squeezing the whole industry

New Xbox boss Asha Sharma also reportedly warned that the company needs to become more streamlined and focused, which has predictably sparked fresh fears about layoffs and studio closures. That combination of a pricey console and internal belt tightening is not a great look

The timing is awkward given Microsoft just spent months trying to win goodwill back with Game Pass price cuts and a stacked release calendar. A console that launches expensive risks undoing a lot of that effort

It feeds into a wider 2026 story where the cost of memory and silicon is hitting everything from phones to graphics cards. Gamers may end up paying for an infrastructure crunch they had no part in creating
