Xbox and Playground Games dropped the launch trailer for Forza Horizon 6 as the game released on May 19. The Japan setting covers mountain passes in the north, Tokyo city streets, coastal roads, and Legend Island unlocked through ranked progression. The Toyota AE86 is in at launch. The trailer is doing the job of making you want to get behind the wheel immediately.

Early player footage coming in from the first 48 hours confirms the mountain road section is genuinely extraordinary and the map is the best in the series. The ranked unlock for the best section of the map is the one controversy.

Coastal Estuary

The trailer does not oversell it. The mountain road section lives up to what the footage promises and then some

Japan was the obvious missing setting. The automotive culture, the geography, the aesthetic. Every element aligns with what Horizon does best

Quanta

The AE86 being in at launch is the detail that signals Playground understands what the Japan setting means to car culture

Legend Island behind a ranked progression unlock is the design decision I cannot quite forgive. Locking the best part of the map feels like engagement padding

The elevation changes in the mountain north section create a sense of scale that previous Horizon maps did not achieve as consistently

Tokyo city streets at night in Forza Horizon is visually the best the series has ever looked

ShadowPilot

The car radio stations are the best in the series. Japanese city pop alongside everything else. The audio curation matches the setting

Anyone upgrading from the Australia map to Japan will feel like they are in a completely different game. The biome variety is extraordinary

Playground has been building toward Japan for a decade and it shows. This is not a rushed setting, it is a considered one
