Insignia, the fan run replacement for the original Xbox Live, has added a big batch of new games. Pure Xbox's Fraser Gilbert reports that Burnout 3: Takedown leads the list, after about six months without any new additions. It is great news for anyone who still has an original Xbox

Insignia is unofficial and not affiliated with Microsoft. It recreates the Xbox Live 1.0 service that Microsoft shut down in 2010, letting old games play online again. It needs a one time exploit on the console and does not work on Xbox Series X or S

The new list includes Delta Force: Black Hawk Down, MTX Motorax, NFL Blitz: The League, Monster Garage and Robotech: Invasion. Several EA sports titles from 2005 have joined too, including NASCAR, NCAA Football, Madden NFL and NHL. Burnout 3 even lets PAL and NTSC players race each other with PAL-60 enabled

Insignia has around 35,000 registered users, although only a small number are online at any one time. Pure Xbox suggests Microsoft should partner with the team, given how much effort has gone into preserving these games

Projects like this are game preservation at its best. Online multiplayer is often the first thing to disappear when servers close. Bringing Burnout 3 back online is a lovely achievement

Did you play Xbox Live in the original Xbox days? And should Microsoft support fan projects like this?

Fan run servers are preservation heroes. Companies shut services down and move on. Communities keep the games alive

Without volunteers, these games would be silent forever. Their work deserves recognition
