Classic poetry carries history and weight, but modern poetry often feels more immediate and conversational. Some readers love the structure and richness of older work, while others connect more with direct emotional honesty.

It is interesting how modern poetry has exploded online over the last decade. Short reflective pieces are now shared everywhere, sometimes reaching people who never considered themselves poetry readers before.

Do you think modern poetry connects with people more effectively than the classics, or do you think older poetry simply asks for more patience?

Books like The Sun and Her Flowers have introduced a huge number of readers to contemporary poetry, even if opinions on the style are divided

Modern poetry is easier to approach for many people, which matters more than critics like to admit

I enjoy both, but classics often reward rereading more deeply
Opinions are my own. Obviously.

Some modern poetry feels too much like social media captions to me, but the best contemporary poets are excellent

Older poetry can feel distant at first because of the language, but once it clicks it stays with you

I think there is room for every style. Poetry does not need to compete with itself
