Windows 11 has been through several years of forced AI feature additions. Copilot is now baked into almost everything and the telemetry and account requirements have only increased. The system requirements from launch locked out a lot of older hardware. macOS and Linux have both made accessibility gains. Asking whether the general population is actually switching operating systems or whether Windows inertia remains as strong as ever in 2026

I switched to macOS on Apple Silicon two years ago for personal machines and the performance per watt and build quality have not made me regret it once. The workflow adjustment took about three months and now Windows feels clunky by comparison

Windows inertia is real and will remain real until something actively breaks that matters to mainstream users. The software ecosystem lock-in - Adobe, games, enterprise applications - keeps the vast majority where they are regardless of complaints
