Speaking from the podium at the UN General Assembly on September 22, President Trump declared that artificial intelligence should be rebranded as super intelligence, or simply SI, stating that the United States leads and will continue to lead SI and AI development globally. He compared concerns about the technology developing in dangerous or uncontrolled ways to what he characterised as the climate hoax, framing fears about rogue AI systems as significantly overblown rather than a genuine risk requiring international coordination or constraint.

Instead, Trump framed artificial intelligence as the next major technological revolution, potentially larger in scale than the internet itself and capable of contributing as much as 25 percent of GDP, positioning it as an opportunity to be aggressively pursued rather than a threat to be cautiously managed. Venture capitalist David Sacks, co-chair of the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, publicly backed the framing, arguing on social media that AI has already created a million new jobs, boosted productivity and supported significant investment through AI driven growth.

The AI comments came within a broader UN address that also touched on conflicts involving Iran, Venezuela and Cuba, criticism of the International Criminal Court, and the current state of the US economy. Trump also indicated plans to appoint a dedicated AI Czar to help direct the administration's overall policy approach toward the technology going forward.
Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Comparing AI safety concerns directly to the climate hoax framing tells you exactly how this administration intends to treat any future calls for actual regulation or caution around the technology going forward.

Renaming AI to super intelligence purely at a branding level changes literally nothing about the actual underlying risks or capabilities of the technology itself, this feels like pure marketing dressed up as policy.

Dismissing safety concerns this bluntly on a stage as prominent as the UN General Assembly is going to make any future international coordination on AI safety standards considerably harder to actually achieve.

Canopy53

The framing of AI purely as an opportunity to aggressively pursue rather than a risk to carefully manage is going to shape a lot of policy decisions over the coming years, this was not just a throwaway rhetorical line.

The 25 percent of GDP claim is a genuinely enormous number to be throwing around without much supporting detail, curious what specific study or projection that figure is actually meant to be drawing from

An AI Czar position could genuinely matter a great deal depending entirely on who actually gets appointed to it and what real authority the role ends up carrying versus being purely symbolic
