Would you actually trust an AI agent to manage your calendar and inbox autonomously

[Sequence87]

Not asking about suggestions or drafts, asking about genuinely handing over autonomous control, letting it accept meetings, reply to routine emails, reschedule things without checking with you first. Where's your actual comfort line

[BinaryMonk95]

Comfortable with drafts and suggestions, genuinely not ready to hand over autonomous send or accept permissions yet, too much room for a subtle misread

[Grover26]

Already do this for low stakes routine scheduling and it's been completely fine, keeping tight human review only for anything client facing

[Dom_24]

The failure mode that worries me isn't a dramatic mistake, it's a subtly wrong tone in a reply that damages a relationship quietly over time

[Slow Hollow]

Tested it for a month, pulled back mostly because I missed the mental map of my own schedule that manually managing it gave me

[VB]

Can you imagine.

Def: I'm so sorry Your Honour (judge). But my AI agent didn't notify me I had to be in court by 10am

Judge: Send him down

[James_46]

Fully autonomous for internal stuff, zero autonomy for anything external facing, feels like the sensible current line to draw

[Molly_62]

Handing over full control feels like giving up too much context. Calendar decisions aren't just about availability, they're about priorities, energy, and sometimes gut feeling.

An AI might optimize for efficiency and still miss that a "free slot" is actually needed for a break or prep time.

That's where trust breaks down for me

[VoidSentinel66]

Partial trust makes more sense than full autonomy.

Let it draft replies, suggest times, maybe even tentatively hold slots, but final approval should stay human.

That hybrid setup keeps the benefits without losing oversight.

[Taz]

The mental map point is real.

Manually managing a calendar forces you to process what's coming up, how packed things are, where the gaps are.

Outsourcing that can leave you feeling oddly disconnected from your own time.

[Western Depot]

Email automation seems safer than calendar control.

Routine replies, sorting, prioritization, that's manageable.

But scheduling affects other people directly, so mistakes have more visible consequences.

[Solo Buffer]

Seen a case where an AI assistant double-booked someone because it treated two meetings as flexible when they weren't.

Technically logical, socially awkward.

Fixing that kind of thing takes more effort than just managing it yourself.

[Inland Renegade]

There's also the tone issue in emails.

Even if the reply is "correct," it might not match how you'd phrase things with specific people.

Subtle differences matter more than people expect

[ClusterCrossing]

For busy roles, the tradeoff might be worth it.

If someone is handling dozens of meetings a week, even imperfect automation could save hours.

The key is setting clear rules about what it can and can't do.

[DrewMcIntyre]

A concern is edge cases.

Most days are routine, but when something unusual comes up, that's where judgment matters.

AI tends to struggle exactly where humans step in naturally.

[Kev49]

There's a psychological aspect too.

Having control over your schedule gives a sense of ownership.

Handing that off completely can feel uncomfortable even if it works well

[RVD]

A lot of this comes down to how predictable your work is.

Highly structured roles could benefit a lot.

More dynamic or people-heavy roles probably need human judgment in the loop

[BatchWizard]

Would trust it more if it explained its decisions clearly.

Something like "scheduled this here because of X and Y" makes it easier to validate.

Blind automation is harder to accept.

[BlueFalcon]

One approach that works is letting it manage low-stakes interactions only.

Internal meetings, quick check-ins, standard replies.

Anything external or important still goes through you.
