I read AI data centers need massive amounts of water for cooling. Why can't they just use air conditioning like regular data centers?

Liquid cooling transfers heat faster than air. Water has higher heat capacity than air so you move more heat with less fluid. For extreme density liquid cooling becomes mandatory

Water gets pumped through servers absorbs heat then goes to cooling towers where it releases heat to air. The water gets reused. You need constant water supply because some evaporates in cooling towers
