Google has begun rolling out many of Chrome's newest AI features to desktop users in the UK, with an expansion to iOS planned for next month. Gemini in Chrome works as a personalized browsing assistant that can summarize lengthy content or compare information across multiple open tabs

The assistant is deeply integrated with Google's own apps, letting users schedule meetings through Calendar, check locations in Maps, draft emails in Gmail, or ask questions about YouTube videos without ever leaving the page they're currently on. It can also remember context from earlier conversations, so follow up questions asked later while browsing get tailored answers rather than starting from scratch each time, and it uses the company's Nano Banana 2 capabilities to transform images found on the web using a simple text prompt

Google says the rollout is built with security specifically in mind, with models trained to recognize known threats like prompt injection attacks, and safeguards requiring user confirmation before the assistant completes any sensitive action on someone's behalf
