Google is rolling out stricter Chrome extension policies aimed at reducing malicious browser add ons and excessive data collection. Developers are being pushed toward updated permissions systems and tighter review standards.

Browser extensions became incredibly powerful over time, which also made them attractive targets for abuse. Most users probably underestimate how much access some extensions actually have.
