Two Texas independent wrestlers have joined WWE's ID development programme at Reality of Wrestling's Rise to Wrestling Royalty show in Texas City, POST Wrestling reports. They are Josiah Jean and "Lady Bird" Monica Monroe. Reality of Wrestling is run by WWE Hall of Famer Booker T, and the show took place at the weekend

Monroe had a big night. She won the WWE ID Women's Championship in the main event, ending Laynie Luck's reign of 320 days. Monroe has wrestled since 2021 for Reality of Wrestling, OVW and the NWA, and has appeared on AEW as enhancement talent. Winning a title and joining a WWE programme on the same night is quite a way to make an impression

Jean was offered his deal directly by Booker T. He is based in Houston, has wrestled at Reality of Wrestling for three years and has previously worked for ROH. Booker T has a strong record of developing talent at his school and promotion, and a direct link into WWE's development system adds weight to that

WWE ID is a different kind of development deal. Wrestlers on the programme usually keep their independent bookings, while also training at the WWE Performance Center and appearing on EVOLVE and NXT programming. It gives WWE a way to track promising wrestlers without signing them to full contracts straight away. For the wrestlers, it offers exposure and coaching without giving up their indie careers

Is WWE ID a good way to develop talent, or does it give WWE too much influence over the independent scene? And who are the best indie wrestlers WWE should be looking at?
