Championship belts are a big part of wrestling's visual identity. A great design looks prestigious, photographs well and makes the holder look like a star. A bad design can make even a world title look like a toy. Fans have strong opinions about belts, and plenty of debates break out every time a new one is unveiled. Fans hold strong opinions about leather, plates and gems

The winged eagle is a favourite for many older WWE fans, while others love the Big Gold Belt from WCW and later the World Heavyweight Championship. The Attitude Era's Smoking Skull belt was a perfect match for Stone Cold. The spinner belt from John Cena's early title run divides opinion, loved by some and hated by others

Then there are the belts that missed the mark. Some modern designs have been criticised for being too plain, too big or too similar to each other. Belts with oversized logos or odd shapes often get mocked. Even the colour of the straps can spark fierce debate online

AEW, New Japan, TNA and countless independent promotions have their own designs as well. Some indie belts are better looking than anything in the big companies
