The Undertaker's debut is still hard to beat for me. The entrance alone made it feel like WWE had introduced a completely different kind of character, and then the presentation backed it up. You did not need ten minutes of exposition because the crowd immediately understood that this guy was supposed to be a big deal.

Kane's debut deserves a shout too, though. Seeing the mask, the size and the way he went straight after Undertaker made the whole thing feel like a horror movie sequel nobody had spoiled.

If we are judging the actual debut rather than the best entrance, Kurt Angle has to be in the conversation. The early character work was ridiculous in the best possible way, but he also went from comedy material to serious main-event credibility surprisingly quickly.

That is what separates the great debuts for me. The first night is memorable, but the debut also needs to establish someone WWE can actually build around. Otherwise it is just a really expensive entrance.

Sting arriving in WWE was probably one of the biggest reactions of the modern era, but technically it was more of a long-awaited arrival than a traditional surprise debut. The crowd knew exactly who was coming and still went completely nuts.

For pure surprise factor, The Shield's debut is right up there. Three guys nobody knew how to categorize suddenly jumping Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins into the main roster picture was a very effective way to say, these three matter.
