Few characters in wrestling history have managed to sustain a single gimmick across an entire career the way The Undertaker and Sting both did, each building a legacy almost entirely around the mystique of a character that barely changed in its core concept for decades at a time. The Undertaker maintained the Deadman persona for roughly thirty years in WWE, building an aura of genuine dread around him that culminated in the legendary WrestleMania winning streak, a run of 21 consecutive victories on the sport's biggest stage that became one of wrestling's most closely guarded and eventually most dramatically ended pieces of storytelling when Brock Lesnar finally broke it in 2014.

Sting, by contrast, built his own legacy primarily in WCW, transforming from a colourful surfer style babyface into the iconic Crow inspired character during the height of the New World Order storyline, becoming a silent, watching symbol of WCW's resistance against the villainous nWo faction for years at a time, an aesthetic and character shift that remains one of the most memorable reinventions in the sport's history even though Sting's actual televised matches during that period were relatively rare by design.
