Rey Fenix retained the AAA Cruiserweight Championship against Ricky Saints on SmackDown, though not in the way anyone expected. Wrestling Inc reports that Fenix won by disqualification after Saints shoved the referee

The match itself was exciting. Fenix hit a cutter and a Five Star Frogsplash, while Saints landed a Death Valley Driver. At one point Saints tried to unmask Fenix on the top rope, which is a huge insult in lucha libre. Fenix blocked a Musclebuster attempt and answered with a hurricanrana

The finish came when Saints pushed referee Charles Robinson into the ropes and then hit the Rochambeau. Robinson refused to count the pin. When Saints confronted him, Robinson called for the bell and disqualified him on the spot

Saints kept attacking afterwards with another Rochambeau and a series of stomps, until other referees came in to break it up. Fenix had already beaten Saints in a title defence the previous month, so the frustration fits his character

A DQ finish keeps the feud alive without making the champion look weak. Saints is clearly being built as a more vicious character. A final match with a stipulation feels like the natural next step

Should this lead to a no disqualification match? And how good has Fenix been in WWE so far?
