Wren Sinclair won a 20 woman battle royal on Tuesday's NXT to become number one contender for the NXT Women's Championship, POST Wrestling reports. The twist was that she competed disguised as AAA's Lady Shani. Sinclair had been under an indefinite suspension for attacking an official, so the mask got her around the ban. She will challenge champion Kelani Jordan at Halloween Havoc on 31 October

The finish was cleverly done. Kali Armstrong eliminated Rain and believed she had won, but "Lady Shani" came back in from ringside and threw Armstrong out. Sinclair then took off the mask after the match. POST suggests the suspension may be lifted for the title shot. Wrestlers from NXT, Raw, SmackDown, EVOLVE, AAA and TNA took part, showing how much talent sharing goes on across promotions these days

Elsewhere, Layla Diggs returned after two months out injured. In the first round of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, Hank and Tank beat EVOLVE's Viktor Zanov and Shido Ash. Birthright attacked Dorian Van Dux and Sean Legacy backstage, and general manager Robert Stone, persuaded by William Regal, put Birthright's Charlie Dempsey and Lexis King in their place against the Tokyo Bad Boys. Dempsey and King won quickly

Next week, Tony D'Angelo faces Myles Borne in another number one contenders match. Halloween Havoc is always one of NXT's more fun shows, with spooky themes and stipulations. Sinclair against Jordan has a ready made story now, with the question of whether the suspension will be enforced. NXT has been good at these kinds of storylines

Was the disguise a clever bit of storytelling or too silly? And can Sinclair dethrone Kelani Jordan?
