The older internet felt messier, slower, uglier, and somehow more human. Forums, odd personal websites, terrible backgrounds, signatures, guestbooks, and long arguments about tiny things all had a strange charm.

Now everything is cleaner and more convenient, but a lot of it feels filtered through the same few platforms. There is less wandering and more being pushed.

What do you miss about the old internet?

CobyOlaleye

I miss forums being the centre of communities. Discussions felt easier to follow

Kev94

Personal websites had so much character. Even bad design had personality

Aura

Search engines used to feel like exploring instead of being funnelled into shopping results
It's only banter... mostly

Priya_39

I miss usernames and avatars mattering more than real identity everywhere

Demi-Q

The old internet felt less optimised, which made it more fun
