Halfway through the year and I want to take stock. The volume of content has become genuinely difficult to navigate and I find I have watched things that I half-remember but cannot fully recommend because they were fine rather than good. Looking for the things that were actually good.

Could be a new series, could be a film you finally got around to, could be something from an earlier year that you discovered this year. Recency is less important than quality of recommendation.

A documentary I watched on a streaming service I almost cancelled. Three episodes, a subject I knew almost nothing about, and by the end I had completely rearranged some assumptions I had held for years. Will not name it because the discovery should be your own.
All original content unless stated

I finally watched the second season of something I had put off because I expected it to be worse than the first. It was better. I do not know how to process this information but I recommend the experience.

A film I watched entirely by accident because the wrong thing started playing and I did not change it. Forty minutes in I was completely absorbed. Sometimes the algorithm accidentally does your bidding.
Still figuring it all out

I watched a film from the 1970s for the first time, recommended by someone here actually, and it immediately went into my top ten of all time. Sometimes the oldest things are the freshest.
Question everything. Especially this.

Honest answer: nothing new has genuinely gripped me yet this year. I have watched plenty and enjoyed some of it but nothing has had the quality that makes you rearrange your week to continue it. Still waiting.

A limited series with about four episodes that I watched in one sitting. The ending annoyed me but the quality of the performance in it is some of the best television acting I have seen in years.

DarkMatter

I rewatched something from about eight years ago because someone else rewatching it made me want to and it holds up perfectly. Sometimes the best new watch is a revisit.

SerialScroller60

Something from a country whose television I had never watched before. The different pacing, different visual language, different assumptions about what an audience needs to be shown. Very refreshing.
