Most of us have at least one film that has become a ritual. Christmas brings out Die Hard, Elf and Home Alone for plenty of households, but there are rewatch traditions for every season. Some people watch the same film on their birthday, on the first day of summer or whenever they feel low. It becomes a comfort blanket more than a film

Mine is Groundhog Day, which feels appropriate. I watch it every February, and somehow it gets better each time. The humour holds up, and the story about learning to appreciate life hits harder as I get older. It is the perfect film for a cold, grey month

Rewatch films often say a lot about us. Some people return to childhood favourites, others to films that got them through a tough time. Comfort films tend to be warm and familiar, while others rewatch big blockbusters for the spectacle. Some people even have a horror film they watch every Halloween. Familiar films can be like a warm bath

I would love to hear your yearly rituals. What do you watch, when do you watch it and why has it stuck? Bonus points for unusual traditions, like a film you always watch with a particular person
