Horror director Jeremiah Kipp has died. Kotaku's Zack Kotzer reports that his partner, Lindsay Katt, announced the news, and the Long Island International Film Expo confirmed it. No age, cause or date of death has been given

Kipp's biggest film was this year's adaptation of The Mortuary Assistant, based on DreadXP's 2022 indie horror game. The film starred Willa Holland as Rebecca and Paul Sparks as Raymond. Video game adaptations are notoriously hard to get right, and bringing a small indie horror hit to the screen was a notable achievement

DreadXP paid tribute, saying Kipp brought his distinctive voice to his films SLAPFACE and The Mortuary Assistant. According to Deadline, he had just finished shooting Faceless, a horror feature based on Cambodian folklore

Fellow filmmakers have spoken warmly about him. Director Beer Fridge said Kipp acted as a mentor on their film Crestfallen. Tributes like that suggest he was generous with his time and experience as well as talented

It is sad news for the horror community and for fans of game adaptations. Hopefully Faceless still gets released so audiences can see his final work. Condolences to his family and friends

Did you see The Mortuary Assistant film? And which other indie horror games would make good films?

Indie horror games have so much potential for film. Little Nightmares and Inside would be fascinating adaptations. Kipp showed it can work

Distinctive voices are rare in horror. His will be missed
