Television cancellation is brutal and sometimes baffling. Shows with passionate audiences and genuine critical acclaim get axed while mediocre content runs indefinitely. Some cancellations are understandable even if painful. Budget too high audience too small. Others feel like genuine cultural losses. Shows that were building toward something and never got there.

Firefly is always first in this conversation and deservedly so. Joss Whedon had a complete mythology mapped and Fox cancelled it before it could breathe. Farscape was cancelled on a cliffhanger that the later miniseries only partially resolved. Pushing Daisies was genuinely original television that never found its audience before ABC pulled the plug. Mindy Project survived cancellation by Fox and moved to Hulu which became a template others followed. Dark Matter had momentum and a cliffhanger ending that never got resolved. The OA season two ended on one of television's most audacious moments and Netflix cancelled it anyway.

Which cancellations still genuinely sting? What would you have wanted to see if the show had continued?
