Brad Pitt's new survival thriller finally has a proper trailer and it looks exactly like the kind of grim, physical filmmaking his recent output has been leaning toward. The setup is simple enough on paper. A former Special Forces soldier survives a plane crash in the Alaskan wilderness with only his retired combat dog for company, and from there it turns into a fight against the cold, the terrain, and whatever wildlife the script decides to throw at them. The trailer leans hard into wide shots of snow and exposed rock, which suggests this is going for atmosphere over dialogue heavy exposition.

David Ayer directing is an interesting choice given his history with gritty urban crime dramas rather than survival stories. He has said in interviews that he wanted something more physical and less talky after his last few projects. J.K. Simmons and Anna Lambe round out the supporting cast, though neither gets much screen time in this particular cut. It feels like the marketing is deliberately keeping the plot vague beyond the crash and the dog.

What stands out most is how much weight the film puts on the bond between Pitt's character and the dog. Several shots just linger on the two of them sitting together in the snow, which feels like a deliberate emotional anchor for the rest of the survival material. The score stays minimal too, mostly wind and breathing until the big swelling moment near the end. It is a familiar trailer trick but it still works here.

This lands in theaters September 25 in the US, so the wait is not long now. Paramount clearly thinks they have something with broad appeal given how wide the push has already been across two separate trailers and a full marketing rollout
