Topic: Do review scores affect what you watch?   Views(Read 52 times)

Zach

Before watching a new film or show, I sometimes check review scores, then immediately regret it. A number can be useful, but it can also flatten something complicated into a strange little judgement badge.

Some of my favourite films have messy reviews, and some highly praised shows have left me cold. Taste is personal, and sometimes the thing that annoys one viewer is exactly what another viewer loves.

Do reviews guide what you watch, or do you ignore them and trust your own instinct?

I look at reviews, but I try not to let them decide for me completely

Audience reactions matter more to me than critic scores, especially for genre films

Can't argue with that. That is just how it is.

I find threads like this more useful than any article because people are answering from their actual situation rather than a hypothetical one.

Good stuff

I have missed films in the past because of bad reviews and later ended up loving them

Reviews help me avoid wasting time, but they are not perfect

I prefer reading a few opinions rather than looking at one score
