That opening comment about tension is spot on. A great scene does not need explosions or huge effects, sometimes it is just two people talking and the audience knowing something is about to happen.

The best examples are the ones where you remember exactly where you were when you first watched them. That is when you know a scene has really landed.

The diner scene in Pulp Fiction always comes to mind for me. It is just conversation, but the way Tarantino builds the mood makes every little detail interesting.

You could argue about whether it is the greatest ever, but it is definitely one that changed how people looked at dialogue in films.

For pure tension, the opening of Inglourious Basterds deserves a mention. The conversation starts politely and slowly becomes more uncomfortable with every sentence.

Christoph Waltz was incredible in that scene. You know where it is heading but the performance keeps you locked in.

The spinning hallway fight in Inception is up there for me. The technical work behind it is impressive, but the best part is that the audience understands the problem immediately.

Not sure there can ever be one best scene because it depends on what you value. A comedy scene, a horror scene and a dramatic scene are trying to achieve completely different things.

That is what makes these discussions fun though. Everyone has a different moment that stayed with them.

The airport scene in Captain America: Civil War gets my vote for pure entertainment. Seeing so many characters interact without it feeling completely chaotic was a difficult balance.

Some people prefer smaller emotional scenes, but sometimes a big spectacle done well deserves credit too.

The basement scene from Parasite is another great example. It completely changes the feeling of the movie and makes you rethink everything that came before.

Those are my favourite scenes, the ones that make you mentally rewind the whole story.
