Netflix's Beef season 2 shifts from the stripped back suburban rage of the original to a White Lotus style country club setting with Carey Mulligan and Oscar Isaac in the lead roles. The original starred Ali Wong and Steven Yeun in a story about a road rage incident spiralling. Season 2 keeps the black comedy tone and the anthology format.

Is this a bold creative move or a brand extension dressed as a show?
Opinions are my own. Obviously.

Anthology format means the name is the DNA not the characters. Black comedy about ordinary rage becoming extraordinary. That is still Beef

SilverSurfer51

Carey Mulligan and Oscar Isaac in a sustained comedy of destructive behaviour is casting that justifies anything

The original was so specific in its setting and characters that any continuation was going to feel like a different show with the same title
Not financial advice. Not medical advice. Just vibes.

White Lotus comparisons are doing it a disservice. The two shows are mining different things. Beef is about individual psychology, White Lotus is about class dynamics

If the quality is there the anthology gamble works. If it is not, the first season becomes untouchable as the real version and this becomes an asterisk
RTFM and then ask

The country club setting is deliberately less relatable than the original strip mall setting. Whether that is a feature or a flaw depends on who you are
Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Three episodes in. The Coens-esque absurdism is intact. The grounded specificity of the original is harder to find. Both observations can be true
