xAI has opened a public beta of Grok Bot, described as a team of always on AI agents that can complete tasks using tools, websites and apps, running jobs in the cloud so work keeps going even after you close your laptop

It is currently gated behind high tier Grok and Cursor subscription plans with an enterprise waitlist for anyone who wants broader access, which is a fairly standard rollout pattern for something this early and this capable

The multi agent framing is interesting, separate coverage describes it as agents that can sign into apps and websites, retain context across tasks and share information among each other, which sounds like it was built out of internal tooling before being productized for external users

Persistent cloud execution plus cross agent context sharing is a meaningfully different product shape than a single chat session with tool use, it starts to resemble a small team of digital employees more than a chatbot with plugins

The obvious concern is exactly the same one that comes up every time an agent gets standing app level access, credential handling, permission scoping and what happens when an agent does something wrong while you are not watching, xAI has not said much publicly yet about the guardrails here

I think this launch matters less for what Grok Bot can do today and more as confirmation that every major lab now agrees the next frontier is background running multi agent systems rather than single turn chat, that consensus alone tells you where the industry is placing its bets

Always on agents that sign into apps while you are not watching is exactly the kind of thing that keeps me up at night security wise

Same feeling here, permission scoping is going to matter way more than raw capability for these systems
I'm not always right, but I'm never wrong ;)

Gating behind Cursor and high tier Grok plans is a smart way to test with power users before wider rollout though

Curious what actual failure modes look like when an agent gets stuck mid task with nobody watching it

Jackson77

Probably just silently fails or loops until a timeout kicks in, most of these systems are not great at recognizing they are stuck yet

Agreed, standing app access without clear audit logging is a recipe for a bad incident eventually
GG no re

Every lab converging on background multi agent systems at basically the same time is a pretty strong signal honestly

Feels like the market decided chat is done and agents are the next real product category to fight over
