A new app wants to help dog owners protect their pets from the weather. Good News Network reports on Weather.pet, which generates forecasts for how conditions will feel for dogs, including the temperature of the ground under their paws

The app was created by founder Clay Bartlett with chief veterinarian Dr Hilary Jones. It produces a Dog Feel reading based on a dog's breed, coat, age and weight

Bartlett explained that he started the project after measuring a pavement that read 131 degrees Fahrenheit when the air was only 98 degrees

In its first weeks, the app sent 28,000 alerts to more than 2,000 dog owners

Hot pavements can burn dogs' paws, and many owners do not realise how much hotter the ground can be than the air. Tailoring forecasts to breed and age makes sense, since a husky and a greyhound cope very differently. It is a simple idea that could prevent a lot of discomfort

Do you check the pavement temperature before walking your dog? And would you use an app like this?
