Organisations are taking the quantum threat to their certificates more seriously. Quantum Zeitgeist reports on Sectigo's 2026 State of Crypto Agility Report, which found that 78 percent of IT and security leaders expect major changes to their public key infrastructure because of post-quantum cryptography

The survey suggests preparation is improving quickly. Thirty eight percent have fully assessed their quantum vulnerable systems, up from 14 percent in 2025, and 83 percent have a quantum readiness budget for next year

Certificate management is also improving. Sixty two percent now have a complete inventory of their public TLS certificates, up from 28 percent, and 40 percent automate monthly renewals, up from 19 percent. However, 61 percent experienced a certificate related outage in the past year

Sectigo chief technology officer Nick France said organisations have moved on to confronting what the change requires. The report comes from a vendor that sells certificate services, and the sample size and methodology were not given

Assessment rates nearly tripling in a year is encouraging, and budgets suggest leaders are taking action rather than just talking. The outage figure is a reminder that certificate management is already hard before quantum adds extra complexity. Automation will be essential as certificate lifetimes get shorter

Is your organisation preparing for post-quantum cryptography? And how reliable are vendor surveys like this?

Opinions are my own. Obviously superposed.
