French photonic quantum computing company Quandela signed a memorandum of understanding with CMC Microsystems to join Canada's Quantum Computing Sandbox program, becoming a cloud based photonic quantum computing provider for the initiative. The partnership gives participating small and medium enterprises, organizations and academic researchers access to Quandela's Canada based photonic quantum computing platform alongside the sandbox's other existing quantum computing options

Quandela co-founder Valérian Giesz said the company is proud to be the first to include a Canada based photonic quantum computer among the sandbox's cloud computing options, specifically because it lets participants' work and data stay entirely hosted on Canadian soil without routing through infrastructure located in another country. The announcement noted this builds on Quandela's recent installation of a quantum computer in Sherbrooke, which the company said facilitated deeper collaboration within Canada leading up to this broader partnership

Beyond just providing cloud access, Quandela and CMC Microsystems will offer technical and practical support to selected projects participating in the sandbox program, aiming to help accelerate the development of quantum solutions across a range of fields.
