Meta's Muse AI agent can now open your files, mail and calendar directly on a Mac

Meta has expanded its Muse AI agent, which originally launched across iOS, Android, web and WhatsApp on September 8, to a new dedicated Mac application that gives the agent direct access to native macOS applications including Files, Mail, Messages, Calendar and Notes, marking Muse's first genuine desktop iteration and its first ability to actually reach into a user's computer rather than operating purely through chat.

According to details from the launch, Muse for Mac can pull context from multiple sources simultaneously, combining calendar events, email threads, documents and ongoing conversations into a single coherent picture, organise folders, complete forms using information it already has access to, and generate end of day summaries pulled from across all of those connected apps. The agent can also operate asynchronously in the background even while its own window is closed, and syncs work across a user's other devices including phone, laptop and WhatsApp.

Meta has built the permission system around an explicit opt in structure, with users deciding exactly which permissions Muse actually receives and able to adjust those settings at any time, full disk access treated as entirely optional rather than required, and any genuinely destructive action, such as deleting a file or sending a message on the user's behalf, gated behind explicit approval before it is actually carried out, while more routine read only actions like sorting folders are allowed to happen more freely. Mark Zuckerberg commented simply that the team is shipping fast, highlighting the pace of Muse's rollout since its original launch just under two weeks earlier.
