Apple's rebuilt assistant, now called Siri AI, arrives with iOS 27 on September 14th, and Wired's David Nield detailed the full set of new capabilities in a September 10th feature. The headline feature is personal context, letting Siri search a user's own texts, emails, calendars and other stored content on request, built on Apple's on-device Spotlight index that spends time indexing everything on an iPhone when the feature first activates. Siri AI also gains on-screen awareness, letting users simply ask about whatever's currently displayed rather than needing to take a screenshot first, and the ability to act inside apps directly rather than just answering questions about them

Every conversation now lives in a dedicated Siri app that uses iCloud to privately sync chat history across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Apple Vision Pro, and users can adjust how the assistant's voice actually sounds. Apple's own press materials never mention Google, but Wired's reporting states Apple's third-generation foundation models were developed from the ground up with help from Google's Gemini models, while Apple maintains it isn't using Google's infrastructure and that no user data from Siri actions gets shared with Google specifically

For users, the practical distinction is that requests run on Apple's own devices and servers regardless of which company's underlying model expertise shaped the system.
