A decent USB C hub can turn a thin laptop into a real workstation, but a bad hub can also create weird storage disconnects, slow card reads, and unreliable displays. For a tech forum setup, I like hubs that cover HDMI, Ethernet, card reading, and enough USB ports without needing three separate adapters. The Anker 555 USB-C Hub 8-in-1 is useful if you want one compact hub for SD cards, microSD cards, USB devices, and power delivery. The Anker USB C Hub with Ethernet 8-in-1 Multiport Adapter is another strong option because Ethernet is still better than WiFi when moving large backups or testing network gear. Add a fast card such as the SanDisk 128GB Extreme PRO SDXC Card and the hub becomes part of the performance chain rather than just a convenience.

Ethernet on a hub is underrated. WiFi is fine until you are copying a huge backup and need it to finish reliably.

I have bought cheap hubs that got hot enough to make me nervous, so brand choice does matter here.

For laptops with only two ports, a good hub is basically mandatory now.

The SD reader part matters too. A fast card is wasted if the reader inside the hub is slow.
