Amazon launched Alexa Podcasts inside the Alexa app on May 19th, adding podcast listening to the assistant's capabilities. The integration allows users to discover, subscribe to, and listen to podcasts through Alexa across devices. Amazon already distributes podcasts through Amazon Music. The Alexa Podcasts integration creates a unified discovery and listening experience across its device ecosystem including Echo smart speakers.

The podcast market remains fragmented across Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts successors, and independent RSS players. Amazon entering with Alexa integration adds a significant distribution channel.

Overcast, Pocket Casts, and the independent app ecosystem will continue to serve listeners who want more control. Alexa Podcasts is for the casual listener in the kitchen not the power user with curated subscriptions
