The 2026 World Cup is experiencing the usual modern football problems turned up to eleven. VAR reviews take five minutes minimum for any decision. Hydration breaks interrupt flow of play constantly. Broadcasters calling football quarters like it's basketball. Advertising is absurd. Substitution patterns have changed game pacing. The on-field product is great but everything around it is annoying. VAR is supposed to get decisions right but it's slower than old system and still gets things wrong. Hydration breaks happen every 20 minutes slowing play down. Calling quarters is just wrong language. A football match is ninety minutes plus added time not quarters. These seem like small things but they accumulate into frustrating experience. The world's greatest game is being micromanaged to death.
