Watched a can't miss prospect completely fizzle out years ago and still think about what actually happened, curious what people think the real common thread usually is

Not asking for any specific case necessarily, more the general pattern behind why raw talent alone so often fails to translate into an actual career

DarkMatter10

Mental side of it usually, seen plenty of physically gifted players who just couldn't handle actual pressure once the stakes got real

Harbour36

Honestly think injuries are the most common and least talked about factor, so many careers quietly end because of bad luck rather than any lack of ability

SharpLantern

Weirdly think off field distractions get underestimated, sudden fame and money derail more careers than people give proper credit to
Coffee first. Questions later.

SuperPosition78

Same theory as everyone else honestly, but I'd add that some players just peak physically earlier and everyone mistakes early flash for genuine long term ceiling
Cityzens.

Nadir Compass

Nah I think it's mostly about fit, a talented player landing in the wrong system or coaching setup can completely stall a career that should have flourished

ReasoningCore87

Depends heavily on the sport for me, team sports are more about fit and coaching, individual sports come down more to raw mental toughness under pressure
