Silverstone hosts the 2026 Formula One British Grand Prix from July 3 to 5 in what promises to be one of the most consequential race weekends of the season. Practice begins Thursday July 3 under the new extended practice schedule introduced this year, qualifying takes place Saturday July 4 and the race runs Sunday July 5. The circuit's high-speed layout, including the legendary Copse, Maggotts, Becketts and Chapel complex, rewards car stability and downforce efficiency and has historically suited Mercedes-designed cars since the hybrid era began in 2014.

George Russell is the defending champion having won the 2025 British Grand Prix at Silverstone, the race that marked his emergence as a genuine title contender. He arrives for 2026 on a roll after Austria and with the home crowd advantage that no other driver at this race enjoys in the same way. Lewis Hamilton, seven-time winner at Silverstone and the most successful British Grand Prix driver in history, has unfinished business with Ferrari after the Austrian strategy misfire and will be desperate to show that his title challenge is real.

Weather forecasts for the Silverstone weekend are showing a mixed picture with possible showers in qualifying that could produce a disrupted grid and a damp race day with potential changeable conditions. Wet-weather Silverstone races have historically produced extraordinary results, including Hamilton's emotional 2008 victory in the wet and Verstappen's 2016 race-long battle in difficult conditions. If the weather turns, the already unpredictable championship situation becomes genuinely wide open. Tickets for the event were sold out before the season began and the attendance is expected to be around 140,000 on race day.
