The cost of building new infrastructure for Olympics every four years is genuinely unsustainable and leaves most host cities in debt for decades Establishing permanent sites would reduce costs dramatically and allow better development of facilities plus stable hosting logistics The environmental impact of building new stadiums every four years across different continents is also worth considering

However the Olympic movement's whole philosophy is about spreading the games globally and giving different nations opportunities to host If you lock it to permanent locations you're essentially saying only wealthy regions deserve to host, which contradicts Olympic values The cultural exchange and global participation element gets lost if it's always the same place

But realistically most cities can't actually afford modern Olympics anymore So either we go to permanent locations or we accept that only billionaire-backed regions can host It's arguably worse to keep damaging cities financially in the name of inclusion than to have consistent, sustainable hosting

Permanent sites make sense financially but kills what makes Olympics special
