Shakur Stevenson is a free agent again. Fightful's Jeremy Lambert reports that the WBO 140 pound champion has announced his release from Zuffa Boxing, the promotion backed by Dana White

Stevenson, who is unbeaten at 25-0, signed a multi fight deal with Zuffa in July but never fought for the company. His last fight was a win over Teofimo Lopez in January

He said he spent about eight weeks in training camp preparing for fights he was told were going to happen, which suggests the problems were about matchmaking rather than money. He asked for the release, and it was granted over the weekend

Stevenson now plans to start his own promotional company, while staying open to working with other promoters. He kept his tone calm, saying he was not mad at anyone and was not pointing fingers

Stevenson is one of the most skilled boxers in the world, so his next move matters. Starting his own promotion gives him control, which more fighters are choosing. Fans just want to see him in big fights again soon

Who should Stevenson fight next? And is starting his own promotion a smart move?
