Haas has confirmed Ferrari junior Rafael Camara on a multi year deal from 2027, replacing Esteban Ocon. PlanetF1's Sam Hall reports that the 21 year old Brazilian is the first rookie confirmed for the 2027 grid. It is a big moment for one of the most highly rated young drivers in the feeder series

Camara leads the Formula 2 championship by seven points from Red Bull junior Nikola Tsolov. He won the 2025 Formula 3 title as a rookie, which shows how quickly he adapts to new machinery. He has not yet driven in an F1 practice session, but has tested older F1 cars at Portimão

Oliver Bearman is expected to stay at Haas, so the team would likely run two Ferrari juniors next year. Haas also considered McLaren junior and reigning F2 champion Leonardo Fornaroli, as well as reserve driver Jack Doohan. PlanetF1 understands the final choice came down to Doohan and Camara

Camara thanked Gene Haas, team principal Ayao Komatsu and the Ferrari driver academy. Komatsu praised his speed in difficult F2 qualifying sessions at Monaco and Montreal, and his performance in the Portugal test

Brazil has a proud Formula 1 history, and Camara will carry a lot of hopes with him. Joining a midfield team alongside an experienced young driver like Bearman is a good environment to learn. It will be exciting to see what he can do

Is Camara ready for Formula 1? And was Haas right to choose him over Doohan?
